Centre for Aquaculture-Agriculture & Production (CAARP)
Centre for Aquaculture-Agriculture Research and Production (CAARP) is a private limited company which means a collective effort of a group of enthusiastic entrepreneurs led by a core group of the best-known experts of national and international repute in the field of aquaculture-agriculture with the primary objective of establishment a model eco-friendly integrated aquaculture-agriculture based farm, knowledge hub and recreation center.
It is a partnership firm with over 20 shareholders from Nepal and Nepalis working abroad, with the total share value of about 3 crores. Its main mission is to foster partnership for the development of aquaculture and associated businesses with the main goal of helping the country attain self-sufficiency in terms of foodfish and fingerling supply and contributing towards food security along with employment creation and income generation. Its vision is to become a role model of partnership business in Nepal in the field of agriculture.
The main focus of CAARP is to produce monosex tilapia fry and supply to farmers as there are no other hatcheries doing it. CAARP has realized that due to lack of high quality fingerlings, tilapia harming is lagging behind in Nepal compared to other countries such as Bangladesh, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and others where tilapia ranks top in terms of production and consumption. Tilapia farming has spread to over 150 countries worldwide and often dubbed as aquatic chicken. FAO FishStat 2026 data show that global annual production of Nile tilapia combined with its hybrids (e.g. red tilapia) has reached over 7.2 million ton. It has overtaken grass carp production and now ranked no. 1 species in the world by volume.
Minor activities include production and supply of food fish as well as fingerlings of Carps, Pangasius, Tor putitora (Golden Sahar), Giant Freshwater prawn and so on. It has an ambitious plan to expand its business to those species and also several other businesses such as restaurant, angling, farm-stay, local poultry, goat farming, and others with a view to serving as a model of contributing food and nutrition security, creating employment, generating income and also providing recreation facilities.
